Botswana Guided Self Drive Overland Tour 2026 | 11 Nights

Welcome to a guided self drive journey through some of Botswana’s most varied and soulful landscapes. This 12-day, 11-night itinerary is designed for travellers who want more than a standard safari, it is for those who want to feel Africa, drive its roads, sleep under its stars and experience both iconic wildlife areas and quieter, character-filled spaces along the way.

Starting in Maun, you will settle into your fully equipped 4x4, enjoy a scenic helicopter flight over the Okavango Delta and then head east to the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans for a once-in-a-lifetime quad bike and meerkat experience with a sleepout on the pans. From there, the route flows through Gweta and on to the Boteti River where desert meets river and wildlife comes to drink below camp, before finishing with three immersive nights in the Khwai Community Area at Sango Safari Camp on the edge of Moremi. Throughout, you are guided by Duncan and Ajanie together with trusted local partners, so the logistics run smoothly while you concentrate on the experience.

Inclusions

• All accommodation as per the itinerary:
  • Cresta Maun Hotel (Maun) – 2 nights on a bed and breakfast basis.
  • Planet Baobab Ntwetwe Pan Overnight – 1 night on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis with pan sleepout.
  • Planet Baobab (Gweta) – 1 night on a bed and breakfast basis.
  • Boteti River Camp (Xhumaga) – 2 nights on a full board plus basis, including selected activities.
  • Island Safari Lodge (Maun) – 1 night on a bed and breakfast basis.
  • Sango Safari Camp (Khwai Community Area) – 3 nights on a full board plus basis.
  • Cresta Maun Hotel (Maun) – 1 final night on a bed and breakfast basis.
• All meals as specified in the detailed itinerary (mix of B&B, D/B&B and FB+).
• Guided activities at each lodge as per their standard offering and as noted in the itinerary, which may include:
  • Game drives in Makgadikgadi National Park and along the Boteti River.
  • Cultural and village visits in the Boteti region.
  • Game drives, night drives and mokoro experiences from Sango Safari Camp (water-level dependent).
• Salt pan sleepout with dinner, tea and coffee and breakfast on the Makgadikgadi Pans.
• Quad bike (ATV) ride from Planet Baobab to the salt pans for the sleepout, including meerkat experience.
• Fully equipped 4x4 rental vehicles for the duration of the overland section (vehicle hire cost only), including:
  • Unlimited kilometres.
  • Standard insurance cover with excess as specified by the rental company.
  • Roadside assistance.
  • Airport transfers before and after the rental.
  • Introduction to the vehicle and equipment.
  • All applicable taxes on the hire cost.
• 45-minute helicopter flight over the Okavango Delta including a 15-minute drinks stop.
• Pre-travel tour planning sessions with Duncan and Ajanie.
• Dinner at Okavango Craft Brewery in Maun with a brewery tour.
• All park fees, conservation levies and government taxes related to the included activities and accommodations, where specified in the itinerary.

Exclusions

• All international and regional flights to and from Maun or other gateway cities, unless otherwise specified.
• Comprehensive travel insurance (strongly recommended and compulsory for this style of trip).
• Visas and any associated border fees where applicable.
• 4x4 rental vehicle security deposit and any additional insurance upgrades or excess reduction options.
• Fuel for the 4x4 vehicles.
• Meals, drinks and activities not specified as included in the itinerary.
• Items of a personal nature such as curios, additional snacks, personal purchases and any extra services at lodges.
• Optional extra activities not listed as included (for example additional scenic flights, extra game drives or independently arranged excursions).
• Discretionary gratuities for guides, camp staff, drivers and trackers.
