This 7-day self-drive itinerary is a gentle, scenic road trip through some of the Western Cape’s most soulful landscapes. It has been designed for travellers who appreciate freedom and comfort, and who enjoy slowing down to explore coastal reserves, small Karoo towns and character-filled country villages at their own pace.

Starting in Cape Town, you collect your Suzuki Jimny and head to De Hoop Nature Reserve for coastal fynbos, dunes and marine life. From there you continue to the heritage town of Prince Albert at the gateway to the Great Karoo, before ending in the creative Route 62 village of Barrydale, based at the art-filled Karoo Art Hotel. Along the way there is ample time for optional whale-coast activities, mountain passes like the Swartberg and Seweweekspoort, and relaxed wandering through orchards, vineyards and historic streets.

Pricing

Pricing is based on 2 guests per vehicle. The Suzuki Jimny is a smaller SUV and we recommend a maximum of 2 adults per vehicle, or 2 adults + 2 small children when travelling as a family. Single supplement and child rates are available on request.

Inclusions

• Accommodation for 6 nights as per the itinerary:
  • De Hoop Collection, De Hoop Nature Reserve – 2 nights in an Opstal Cloete Suite on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis.
  • Dennehof Karoo Guesthouse, Prince Albert – 2 nights in a Stoep Room on a bed and breakfast basis.
  • Karoo Art Hotel, Barrydale – 2 nights in a Groot Karoo en-suite room on a bed and breakfast basis.
• Meals as specified: dinner, bed and breakfast at De Hoop; bed and breakfast in Prince Albert and Barrydale.
• Suzuki Jimny 4x4 vehicle for the duration of the tour (with vehicle-hire option), including:
  • Standard vehicle insurance cover.
  • Insurance excess deposit of ZAR 10,000.00 payable on collection of the vehicle.
  • Option to upgrade to reduced insurance excess on request.
• Activities as per the itinerary where specifically indicated as included by the lodges.
• Pre-tour driving route planning assistance by Duncan and Ajanie, based on their personal experience of this route.
